What is a wedding Trousseau?
Trousseau, according to Webster’s a trousseau is the personal possessions of a bride usually including clothes, accessories, and household items and wares.
Throughout history women have made preparations for their new marriage by preparing a trousseau. A traditional trousseau would include items that they would need to start their new home together. Items such as bed lines, bath towels, it also included bridal accessories, jewelry, lingerie, toiletries, and makeup. They would be packed away in a hope chest, which would sometimes be prepared for long railroad or ship rides. Often the items were a labor of love that involved all the women in the family hand sewing the various garments. I am sure moms are happy we have Victoria Secrets and Macy’s to help us out today.
In the Victorian era, an elaborate trousseau was a sign of wealth and social standing would include the finest European linen and clothing
Even today, the trousseau is considered items that brides need to get through their wedding, including pre and post wedding activities: although, you may not find it pack away in a cedar hope chest. Instead the modern trousseau is gathered from engagement, shower and wedding parties. It might include new clothes, vacation wear, sports gear, and luggage. Cash gifts received at any of the pre wedding events can also be used to purchase what you have not received.

Bridal Trousseau was once the legacy of the brides single days. I think it was also seen in part as the dowery.
